Education plays a vital role in any society around the world. It is through education that many people are able to communicate trade and build communities with others. Being educated does not meant that you are able to read and write, but it means that you are able to understand the world from different perspectives.
This is the level of education that the United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organization is demanding from all the countries around the world to promote peace. UNESCO is urging countries to channel more financial investment into quality education. UN Senior officials had stated this on the 32nd International Day of Peace on September 21, 2013.
Poorer Countries Require Support
The Secretary of the UN, General Ban ki Moon has pointed out that education is a must for all countries, especially those which are struggling to do so by themselves. In his statement on the International Day of Peace, he urged the developed countries to step up and partner with poor countries in order to spread education to children who are marginalized.
He pointed out that there is a need to provide adequate amount of support to those countries that are not able to provide education to millions of children. About 57 million children do not have access to education and there are many more who are not given the right quality of education. The UN secretary launched the Global Education First Initiative last year in order to help accelerate the progress of obtaining universal education.
What UNESCO Expects
UNESCO is trying its best in order to promote education around the world so that children that are unable to afford one can be enlightened with knowledge. UNESCO's Director General, Irina Bokova must not only incorporate more than just theories and numbers but also human rights and mutual respect for others.
In order to curb violence and destruction among people between communities, there must be a higher standard of education which encompasses positivity. In countries where the education levels are low, there are a lot of uneducated people who are inclined towards extremist behavior. One of the main targets for UNESCO as of now is to ensure that places where illiteracy and poverty are endemic is provided access to education.
Source of Inspiration
The reason why UNESCO has urged other countries to increase their investment in education is because of a young girl, Malala Yousafzai, who was advocating her right to education and was targeted by the Taliban. Although she is recovering really well and is undergoing her schooling in Birmingham, Great Britain, her courage and determination to fight for her own rights was valiant and admirable.
This prompted the United Nations to step up a task force that aims to spread education to all parts of the world. In order to gain peace between nations, education should play an important role. There are many kids out there, who not have a dad or a mom and are not privy to quality education. These are the children that are not brought up right and they are the ones who lose their way and become highly restless.
